Chocolate Pecan Chess Pie

Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp. cornmeal
  • 1 tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. butter, melted
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla
  • 1 c. pecans, chopped
  • 1 unbaked pie shell, homemade or store bought
  • Garnish:
  • 1 c. heavy cream
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, cocoa, cornmeal, flour and salt in a mixing bowl.
  2. In another mixing bowl, combine eggs, milk, melted butter and vanilla. Stir egg mixture into sugar mixture. Whisk gently until all is blended.
  3. Pour all into an unbaked pie shell. Sprinkle pecans on top.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 - 60 minutes. Pie will puff up and slightly crack on top.
  5. Beat together heavy whipping cream, sugar and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
