Those were just a few of the answers to life’s persistent questions that Signal Knob Middle School students heard Monday morning. “What color is the milk?” asked LaVaun Janney, an instructor for a Southland Dairy Farmers mobile dairy exhibit, as she pointed to a glass bottle that contained milk from Violet, a Jersey cow. PETA Teams with Alicia Silverstone: Brings Animatronic Cow to Schools

Hollywood actress Alicia Silverstone, and the animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), are teaming up to spread a message that people should not consume dairy. But cow comfort and care are core principles that guide most dairy farmers. The 2013 Animal Care Reference Manual reports more than 70% of the U.S. milk supply participates in the National Dairy FARM program: Farmers Assuring Responsible Management.
